Daan Poppema is a postdoc researcher and civil engineer with experience in flood safety and coastal morphology. His current research focuses on bridge clogging by floating debris. Using scale experiment, he studies how floating debris at bridges increases water levels and causes flooding. Previously, for his PhD at the University of Twente, he studied morphological effects of beach buildings, employing a combination of field experiments and numerical modelling to determine their effects on aeolian sand transport and beach-dune morphology. He has an BSc degree in civil engineering, an MSc in water engineering and management and international educational and research experience in Mexico, Norway and Belgium.
