Serious game: CSI The Hague- Augmented Reality in Crime Scene Investigation

Themes: High Tech, Software technology & Intelligent systems

Early lab scale demonstration

A TRL is a measure to indicate the matureness of a developing technology. When an innovative idea is discovered it is often not directly suitable for application. Usually such novel idea is subjected to further experimentation, testing and prototyping before it can be implemented. The image below shows how to read TRL’s to categorise the innovative ideas.

Why?

Forensic research is a scare expertise. First responders on crime scenes often do not have the expertise to collect evidence needed for proper further forensic research.

How?

To allow remote experts in crime scene investigation to support first responder in collecting time-critical evidence an spatially a crime scene, an augmented reality system has been developed to enable virtual co-location and remote investigators.

When?

The first proof of concept has been successfully developed and tested. The lessons learned provides the basis for recent further research on the use of Augmented Reality in the safety domain.
