The Mines of the Future
Raw materials are running out. It is becoming increasingly expensive to obtain them, and the mining process is causing serious environmental problems. This, while we as a society throw away enormous quantities of these refined minerals, without reusing them. This exhibition revolves around the concept of Urban Mining. You begin by going through the cave of the past, and are confronted with the problems that mining has caused. Entering the mines of the future, each week new companies will present their new techniques for sustainable mining and recycling. For example, today more gold is extracted from old telephones than from gold mines; and much furniture is produced from the plastic waste of the Amsterdam canals.
