Astrid Roij-Lubsen

Where do you work?

Waag Society is an institute for art, science and technology that develops creative technology for social innovation. As a concept developer I mainly work in the fields of open design and open data and I am involved in various activities in our Fab Lab. My responsibilities are to develop interactive concepts and to facilitate a dialogue with ‘users’ throughout the design process.

What have you learned from your study at IDE?

My education in Industrial Design Engineering provided me with the attitude, tools and techniques to empathise with people, which is still a key aspect of my work today. Although having shifted from traditional product design towards service design and open design I am still applying the design thinking approach I learned at Industrial Design Engineering.
