This lecture entitled “Circumstances,” will present the work of the Oslo-based office Manthey Kula.
Established in 2004 by Beate Hølmebakk and Per Tamsen, Manthey Kula’s work has been presented in architecture exhibitions and collections worldwide, with projects nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2009, 2011, and 2019. Manthey Kula is widely recognized in Norway and abroad for their unique and acutely site-specific architecture that works at the intersection of art, architecture, and landscape architecture. Their practice takes on distinctively sculptural and expressionistic qualities that pay special attention to site, form, and narrative.
The Berlage Keynotes is an ongoing lecture series featuring internationally prominent architects, designers, and thinkers who are at the forefront of design discourse and innovation. Organized and hosted by The Berlage, the series is part of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment’s Public Programs held on Thursday evenings. A selection of speakers working from different disciplinary perspectives and in different geographic, cultural, and political contexts present how their work engages with contemporary issues and debates. This spring semester, speakers include Christ & Gantenbein, OOZE, Francesca Torzo, Manthey Kula, PRODUCTORA, Anna Puigjaner, Vector Architects, Kieran Long, and Diener & Diener.
