We continue to power all our electric devices by fossil fuels. We need to switch to using power generated from renewable sources, such as sun and wind as soon as possible.
Simultaneously we need to switch also in transportation and heating from fossil fuels (gas) to renewables. This leads to new electric loads in the grid that are much larger than current loads and that are also more flexible.
These changes have a significant combined effect on the power system. This so-called energy transition brings many challenges that require algorithms to make sure that the power generated is in balance with the power consumed at all times.
