Joey Dekker is a PhD candidate in the Numerical Analysis group of the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics at the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science. His research focusses on creating hybrid mimetic (structure-preserving) numerical methods for fluid flows using multi-patch splines.
Academic background
Joey's academic journey started in Delft with a bachelor in Aerospace Engineering from TU Delft, during which he spent a semester abroad at the University of Glasgow. After completing his bachelor's degree, Joey stayed at the Faculty of Aerospace engineering for his master's degree, specialising in Aerodynamics. After an internship in Austria at CycloTech, he started his master thesis on "The Lagrangian Mimetic Spectral Element Method: Solving (non-)Linear Advection Problems with a Mimetic Method". While he switched faculties for his PhD, some core concepts of his master thesis remain in his PhD research.
