Vibrations from underground nuclear test travel into atmosphere via earth and ocean

Noord-Korea heeft sinds 2006 vijf ondergrondse kernproeven uitgevoerd op hun nucleaire testlocatie Punggye-ri in het noordoosten van het land. De meest recente en krachtigste proef vond plaats op 3 september 2017. Onderzoekers van de TU Delft (Shahar Shani-Kadmiel, Pieter Smets and Läslo Evers) en KNMI hebben zowel de seismische als akoestische signalen van deze meest recente proef onderzocht.

Can we combat climate change by drawing energy from the ocean? Martha Deen, alumna Applied Earth Sciences, has the ambition to map the potential of marine energy. She convinced a jury and won the Marina van Damme scholarship 2018 for female alumni of TU Delft.

The department of Geoscience & Engineering is part of EPOS-NL, the Dutch contribution to the European infrastructure for geosciences, natural hazards and geo-resources. This project is one of the ten awarded proposals in the National Roadmap for Large-Scale Scientific Infrastructure by NWO.
