Whiffle, a Delft University of Technology spin-off, has successfully developed cutting-edge technology for highly accurate, localised weather forecasting. Thanks to a €3 million capital injection from impact investors ENERGIIQ and SHIFT Invest, the company will now be able to expand and achieve rapid growth. Global leaders in the renewable energy sector are already using Whiffle’s model.

Zoet water in het Nederlandse kustgebied is schaars. Door klimaatverandering en verzilting staat de beschikbaarheid van zoet water nog verder onder druk. Dit is een probleem voor de land– en tuinbouw in kustgebieden, vooral in droge zomers. In het project AGRICOAST, geleid door Boris van Breukelen van de TU Delft, wil een consortium van kennisinstellingen, bedrijven en maatschappelijke organisaties de zoetwaterbeschikbaarheid in het Nederlandse kustgebied vergroten. Het project heeft hiervoor van NWO een beurs van 1.5 miljoen euro toegekend gekregen waarmee 5 promovendi worden aangesteld.

TU Delft participates in an important large-scale European renewable energy project that will pave the way for bankable hybrid offshore renewable energy parks across Europe by 2025. The project will demonstrate the combination of offshore wind with wave and solar energy. Delft researchers George Lavidas, Andrei Metrikine and Sukanta Basu focus on how the different renewable resources can interact so that there will be less variability in the electricity that will reach people’s homes. EU-SCORES is a 45 million € Horizon 2020 project under the lead of the Dutch Marine Energy Centre.
