Het HERILAND project gebruikt satellieten en social media om nieuwe inzichten te geven in erfgoed. De huidige satellietfoto's geven snel een perfect beeld van de ontwikkeling van steden en hun beschermde gebieden. Sociale media tonen hoe mensen deze gebieden waarderen en gebruiken.

As part of the Port City Futures research programme, Carola Hein and Paolo De Martino (Architecture) will make a film in collaboration with artist and filmmaker Ollie Palmer. The film will feature interviews with key players in Naples, Rotterdam, and Dunkirk together with future development scenarios provide a view into evolving port-city region relationships.

The new handbook, edited by Roberto Rocco and Jan van Ballegooijen, explores 25 cases in 24 cities around the world. In each case, informal urbanisation has played a pivotal role in how people have struggled for their right to the city and for their ‘right to rights’ as citizens.

The Global Housing Study Centre will create a living lab in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to create resilient dwelling clusters for urban resettlement. The lab has been made possible with a € 500.000,- grant from the joint SDG research programme from NWO-WOTRO Science for Global Development.

Het MOR (Modular Office Renovation) -team van de TU Delft, dat bestaat uit 54 studenten, is bezig met een ontwerp om (een deel van) een inefficiënt kantoor te renoveren in een appartement dat meer energie produceert dan dat het zelf gebruikt. Op 15 januari 2019 heeft het team het definitieve ontwerp van dit prototype onthult. Met het uiteindelijke prototype gaat het team in juli 2019 naar Hongerije om mee te doen aan een internationale studenten-competite voor energiezuinige huizen.

Ruimtelijke inpassing van nieuwe bebouwing in een bestaande omgeving is voer voor veel discussie, terwijl het feitelijk niet gaat om woorden. Kijk naar vormen en patronen als je historische continuïteit wilt bereiken in een stedenbouwkundig ontwerp, zegt promovendus Jiaxiu Cai.

Het winnende ontwerp voor een nieuwe trap voor de BK Expo verbindt de tentoonstellingsruimte zowel fysiek als visueel met de omliggende ruimtes. Het ontwerp van Veerle Alkemade en Sanne Sophie Hoogkamer is het winnende ontwerp van de Stylos Scala ontwerpcompetitie.

Veel steden ontstaan aan de oever van een rivier, maar dat betekent niet dat stad en water per definitie in elkaar geïntegreerd zijn. Promovendus Claudiu Forgaci onderzocht hoe beter ontworpen riviercorridors kunnen bijdragen aan een veerkrachtiger en leefbaarder stad.

The new BK Lab for innovations offers a creative space to develop new innovations and to make cutting-edge research visible within the faculty. The new Lab, located at BG.West.200, offers a communal space where researchers can interact and push the boundaries of their research projects.

A new collaboration with the Dutch installation sector has resulted in the creation of the Chair of Building Services Innovations. The chair will be directed to the academic development of innovative building services and support of this part of the building industry, which has a pivotal role to play in the challenges of sustainability and quality of life.
