Sustainable innovations at Lowlands!

In 2012 TU Delft will make its third appearance at Llowlab, the sustainable innovation island at the Lowlands music festival (17 to 19 August). Together with other knowledge institutions TU Delft will be presenting its sustainable innovations to 55,000 festival goers. Llowlab is a great opportunity for researchers and high-tech start-ups to carry out practical research, to test new products or even to present their products to a wide public.

Llowlab

Llowlab is a collaboration between various universities, knowledge institutions and businesses. The participants all share the same goal: to show how the Lowlands festival and our society in general can be structured in a more sustainable way. This gives visitors an insight into the potential of the reservoir of knowledge at TU Delft and how, through the application of the scientific knowledge that is developed, this is turned into useful benefits for society.

For TU Delft, the Llowlab is a unique opportunity to demonstrate how science contributes to society and improves the quality of life. With the help of an interactive and interesting array of experiments, research projects and products, TU Delft shows how technological developments provide solutions to urgent social issues in the field of sustainability.

Optional module

The Llowlab is linked to the ‘Sustainable Technical Innovation in Practice’ optional module, which is available to all students at TU Delft. The students on the module play a part in deciding the nature of the contribution by the university to Llowlab. Working in a multi-disciplinary team, they will learn how to translate scientific insights into innovative solutions to social issues, with the aim of presenting the work and achievements of TU Delft in such a way that the audience is prompted to think more carefully about sustainability and consumer behaviour. The optional module will start in February and run until June 2012. The presentation to the press will take place in June at TU Delft, and will serve as a foretaste to the Llowlab in August.
